Dr. Onur Alakavuklar is a classical and jazz guitarist, educator, and recording artist whose work bridges performance, education, and community engagement. An active performer and dedicated teacher, he has built a career centered on artistic versatility and meaningful musical collaboration.
As a recording artist, Alakavuklar released the album Classical Jazz Guitar in 2023, featuring original arrangements and compositions that blend the traditions of classical guitar with the language of jazz. He will be recording a second solo album in Madrid, Spain, presenting new arrangements of works by Haydn, Scarlatti, Leclair, and Handel, scheduled for release in 2027.
Alakavuklar has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States and internationally. His collaborative performances include appearances with opera productions, symphony orchestras, and chamber ensembles, reflecting a broad repertoire that spans classical, contemporary, and crossover works.
In addition to his performance career, Alakavuklar is a committed music educator. He maintains an active private music studio.
Alakavuklar also contributes to music education at the organizational level. As Regional Director for a nonprofit music education program in the Detroit metropolitan area, he works to expand access to guitar education and develop opportunities for young musicians.
He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and continues to balance performance, recording, teaching, and arts leadership in his professional work.
